CSC is offering a new report to help US hospitals better understand the quality reporting requirements that will need to be met to demonstrate meaningful use of EHR technology.  The new report, titled Hospital Quality Reporting: The Hidden Requirements of Meaningful Use, can be downloaded here.

CSC’s approach was to deconstruct the 15 required quality measures for State 1 and to examine the set of unique data elements and type and sources of electronic documentation necessary.

The authors found that even hospitals with core systems, such as registration software, who have met the explicit data capture requirements for Stage 1 – CPOE for medications and problem lists for example – will only have 35 percent of the data needed for hospitals measures.  The remaining 65 percent are the hidden requirements of meaningful use.

The report is brief and packed with useful information.  It is well worth downloading and reading.
