On August 30 we ran a post reporting that Weno Healthcare, Inc had submitted their application to become a temporarily authorized certification and testing body, or an ONC-ATCB. At that time we expected the application process to take between 30 – 60 days so we recently followed up with Weno President Tina Goodman to get an update on the application status. Tina responded as follows:
Weno Healthcare Inc. resubmitted their application to the ONC for ATCB status on 10-28-2010 and should have a response in 30 days. Weno received a deficiency report which addressed certain international standards that were called into questioned in the first application. Weno believes they have fully satisfied the standards in question and hopes to have an approval without more delay this round. The ONC does not provide the evidence they found for not meeting a particular standard; only that the standard is not met from their review. This makes the correction process tricky. Weno is fully committed to meeting all the standards required and hopes their new application will do the job.
To date only 59 certifications have been issued so there is still room for additional testing and certification bodies but time may be running short. So far all certifications have been issued by either CCHIT or Drummond Group. InfoGard Laboratories has also been approved to certify EHRs but they have yet to issue their first certification.
