MotherKnows has come up with an innovative twist on the personal health record with an easy to use, simple to start PHR for your children called Mother Knows.
Think about the initial resistance most people feel towards using personal health record systems. We find them to be too time consuming, too much trouble to keep updated, there are too many care givers involved and there is too much history to enter.
Now – think about each of those in relation to your child. Much less history, fewer care givers and limited history. The “too much trouble to keep updated” item becomes the biggest hurdle.
The new MotherKnows system eliminates the final objection by doing the work for you. The secret sauce for them is that they contact your child’s pediatrician, with your consent, between four and ten times per year and use the information received from the doctor’s office to populate the personal health record.
MotherKnows is obviously targeted at parents with young children so they’re able to focus on the needs of those parents. Rather than offering just a complete medical history they’re able to repackage that information as:
- Having your child’s immunizations and up-to-date medical history at your fingertips for school and camp.
- Being able to share your child’s key health information with caregivers in an emergency.
MotherKnows CEO and founder Hesky Kutscher told Mashable “We built the system to fit the needs of parents. It’s not a generic product. It should be a different experience when you’re 90 years old and 5 years old.”
They offer a simple, three-step sign up process, which couldn’t be easier. Create an account, select a plan, and complete and approve an online medical release form. Then wait a few days for them to receive health records from your doctor and display them to your account.
It’s a simple, yet clever concept that I think will be extremely appealing to parents of young children.
MotherKnows is available through an nicely designed web interface as well as a recently released iPhone app.
Pricing begins at $9.95 per month with discounts annual billing and for multiple children and MotherKnows offers a 30 day free trial.
