EHR and HIT News for September 28th

Friday is always a bit slow for EHR and HIT news but we do have a couple of customers acquisition stories from Digiscribe New England and SRS as well as as news from Vitera Healthcare on the results of their first annual user conference in Orlando, Florida.

Digiscribe New England Wins Fourth Major Hospital Account in Six Months – Medical Facilities Increasingly Utilizing Digiscribe’s Financial Document Management Solution

Digiscribe New England today announces that their business development team has just won their fourth major hospital client in six months. With a payback period typically measured in six months or less, hospitals, clinics and medical centers throughout Boston, Massachusetts and New England are increasingly recognizing cost savings and efficiencies from Digiscribe’s financial document management solutions so that they can focus more on patient care and less on shuffling paperwork.

While scanning patient charts and records for use with electronic medical/health records (EMR/EHR) systems is also a Digiscribe solution that has gotten a lot of attention, Digiscribe’s healthcare financial document management solution helps to streamline accounts payable  and accounts receivable departments. There are two main aspects of this solution: document scanning services and cloud document management.

Document scanning allows hospitals to outsource the labor-intensive task of document preparation, scanning, indexing, exception handling, and quality control. Cloud document management allows for instant and secure access to purchase orders, vendor invoices, medical claims, patient invoices, contracts, and any other business document—anytime, anywhere and for a modest monthly fee versus a capital expense.

“Hospitals are much better at treating patients than scanning documents and hunting for records in filing cabinets,” said Tom Zeliff, co-owner of Digiscribe New England. “Whether you’re scanning AP and AR records today or not, and whether you need them uploaded to your current EMR/EHR, practice management system or a new document management system, we can help relieve your pain. This is our specialty.” Zeliff went on to say, “Because our solutions offer a positive return on investment in just a few months, many of our medical clients are now considering taking the next step with workflow automation to ensure that payments are received faster and any AP or AR processing bottlenecks are promptly identified and resolved.”

Side-by-Side Comparison of SRS to Legacy EHR Reveals Stark Differences for 17-Provider Michigan Orthopaedic Institute

SRS has announced that Michigan Orthopaedic Institute (MOI) has selected the SRS EHR to replace its legacy EHR. The group’s 17 providers care for patients at two locations in Southfield and West Bloomfield, Michigan.

“We conducted a side-by-side comparison to compare the efficiency with which our clinicians are able to accomplish basic workflow tasks using the SRS EHR versus our former HER — the difference, in terms of number of clicks and speed, was night and day,” says David J. Collon, M.D., CEO of MOI. “We want to be positioned for the future and be able to meet all government and payer requirements — but we can’t be slowed down.”

“Our local hospital offered to subsidize our purchase of its EHR, but we declined in favor of SRS,” says Jeff Fischgrund, M.D., MOI. “The EHR used at the hospital was not specialty focused like the SRS EHR, and would have severely impacted our patient load and workflow. No subsidy would have offset the long-term costs associated with implementing the wrong EHR.”

“As physicians face the implications of healthcare reform and the aging baby-boomer population, having ergonomic software that allows them to care for patients in an efficient manner has become more critical than ever,” says Evan Steele, CEO of SRS. “As the EHR Incentive Program progresses, the number of practices de-installing their EHRs and choosing to implement the SRS EHR is growing dramatically. Specialty groups, in particular, are rejecting EHR grants from their hospitals because they recognize that these EHRs will never meet their specific workflow and productivity needs.”

Vitera Healthcare Solutions’ User Conference, VIBE 2012, Proves Successful in Improving Customer Experience

Vitera Healthcare Solutions has announced the successful conclusion of its first annual user conference, VIBE (Vitera Innovate Build Exchange), and a record number of attendees. VIBE was held September 12 through 14 at the Disney Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando, Fla.

The name of the conference derives from Vitera’s dedication to innovation, building solutions that suit the real needs of its customers, and exchanging information, best practices and ideas with them. In that spirit, VIBE 2012 gave customer attendees the opportunity to engage with product management, development, professional services and support.

“VIBE 2012 was a complete success in that we were able to establish a direct rapport with our customers that will assist us in meeting their needs and expectations more effectively,” said Matthew Hawkins, CEO of Vitera healthcare Solutions. “With over 60 sessions, 12 hours of peer-to-peer networking and hours of one-on-one consultations and demonstrations, VIBE was full of energy, packed with product training and centered on customer engagement.”

This was the first user conference the company has held since becoming Vitera Healthcare Solutions in 2011. VIBE 2012 featured interactive lectures and roundtables covering valuable topics such as practice profitability, patient engagement, incentive and regulatory programs and demonstrations on Vitera Intergy Mobile and Vitera Stat soon to be released. As part of the basic registration fee, CEUs in Meaningful Use, ICD-10 and Administrative Simplification were offered free of charge.

“VIBE 2012 exceeded my expectations as it provided exceptional training that we can immediately implement at our practice to improve workflows, increase efficiencies and improve revenue cycle management,” said Rita Foster, Practice Administrator at Atlanta GYN & OB. “The conference was a wonderful experience and I look forward to attending next year.”
