A new resource helps guide Health Information Management professionals with processes for document management and imaging to support the transition to Electronic Health Records.
The Document Management and Imaging Toolkit, developed by an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) volunteer workgroup, helps assess the current landscape in an organization’s electronic health record adoption and focuses on document imaging operations. The toolkit offers best practices and guidance from the time an EHR system is implemented to maintaining the system for efficient retrieval.
Included in the toolkit is information on preparing, scanning, capture and scanning, document storage options and file size calculations, bar code information and guidelines. These tools have a point of integration table between the document management system and the EHR.
“In today’s quest for a fully integrated EHR, document management and imaging still plays a critical role,” said AHIMA CEO Lynne Thomas Gordon, MBA, RHIA, CAE, FACHE, FAHIMA.
“Knowing how to manage paper records throughout their lifecycle is critical to the success of EHR adoption. This innovative toolkit provides guidance on the process from document receipt through upload to the EHR.”
The toolkit is free to AHIMA members and $99.95 for nonmembers.
