HBMA Compliance Conference for Medical Billing Professionals focuses on practical approach

The Healthcare Billing & Management Association (HBMA) announced  its annual Compliance Conference which will provide medical billing companies with a practical approach to developing and accessing companies’ Compliance Plans within the context of effective business practices.

This two-and-a-half day conference will take place March 5 – 8, 2013 at The Westin South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, in sunny Orange County, CA, and will include compliance information tools, sample documents, worksheets and checklists, sample contracts and legal documents, and sample policies and procedures.

“Attendees will learn how to integrate compliance into every aspect of their business,” said executive director, Brad Lund.. “They will learn how to add value to their business services, and will receive tips, techniques, strategies and resources to make compliance  work easily for them.”

The expert faculty is comprised of six outstanding professionals: National healthcare consultant, Holly J. Louie, RN, CHBME, PCS; recognized healthcare authority, Robert Burleigh, CHBME;  attorney and compliance officer, Karen Collier, Esquire; HBMA Legal Consultant, James B. Wieland, Esquire, and once again this year HBMA has invited guest speaker, Paul W. Kim, Esquire, from Ober|Kaler to talk about MACs, MICs, RACs, ZPICs, and NSC, as well as Bill Finerfrock, Legislative Consultant for HBMA.

The schedule for this event includes topics from the Seven Elements of Compliance established by CMS: Coding, Education and Training, Effective Monitoring and Auditing, HIPPA/HITECH, Risk Assessments and Contracts.  Two highlights of this event include a review of headline case studies to discuss and dissect with the entire faculty, as well as the Washington Update highlighting changes in healthcare effecting medical billers.

In addition to the excellent classroom sessions, there also will be several networking opportunities allowing attendees to exchange various solutions to mutual challenges.  The venue in sun-filled Orange County, CA, and nearby beautiful Newport Beach are appealing to attendees.
