The hospital began the process of patient notification last Friday and a call center for patients with questions was scheduled to open yesterday.
According to the report the handheld device was used by on-call pharmacists at Continuum Home Infusion. It went missing around Oct. 5.
In a statement released by the hospital officials say the device might have contained patients’ names, addresses, diagnoses and medications, along with some Social Security numbers that also are health insurance identification numbers.
It’s amazing how often these breeches involve either handheld devices or portable computers. It’s not difficult to secure these devices. If you, or someone in your organization, has a portable device that may contain personal health information take the steps necessary to be certain its secure.
