According to the most recent report (PDF download) from the CMS there were nearly 16,000 hospitals, physicians and other eligible professionals who signed up to participate in the federal EHR incentive payment programs in February. This brings the total participants to over 388,500 through February 2013. The breakdown for those signing up in February was 15,951 physicians and other eligible professionals and 42 hospitals.
Total EHR Incentive funds paid through February 2013 now exceeds $12.6 billion dollars with nearly $130 million having been paid through the first two months of 2013.
The electronic health record adoption incentive program, launched under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, has over 264,000 Medicare eligible providers (EPs) to date, as well as over 120,000 Medicaid registrants. According to the most recent numbers provided by the CMS there were just under 4,300 hospitals eligible hospitals that have registered.
As you might expect the flood of registrants to have been paid is beginning to slow. The monthly averages for the different years the programs have been available are listed below:
- 2011 – 1,016 average unique providers per month to have been paid
- 2012 – 1,101 average unique providers per month to have been paid
- 2013 – 285 average unique providers per month to have been paid
