The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have announced that the number of physicians and hospitals to have registered for the Medicare or Medicaid electronic health record incentive program has increased by over 15,000 in January to 191,604. Total incentive payments issued during the month were over $508 million bringing the total paid through January 2012 to over $3 billion.
According to a report available on the CMS website there were 8,539 Medicare Eligible Professionals and hospitals that signed up for the Medicare program and 6,864 that signed up for the Medicaid program. 152 hospitals were eligible for both programs which brings the total registrants in January to 15,555.
The breakdown of the $3 billion in incentive funds paid out so far is as follows:
- Payments under the Medicare Program $1.699 billion
- Payments under the Medicaid Program $1.420 billion
The CMS reports these numbers a few days after the close of each month.
